Unlike online (built-in bypass) soft starters, the external bypass soft starter is designed to work with an external bypass contactor. Once the motor reaches full rated speed, the soft starter signals the external contactor to close, bypassing the SCR modules and allowing the motor to run directly across the line. This architecture is particularly advantageous for high-power applications (up to 630kW / 1200A), as it reduces heat generation in the thyristors during continuous operation, simplifies thermal management, and extends the service life of power electronics. The unit features a straightforward three-in, three-out wiring topology (R/S/T input, U/V/W output), making installation and maintenance simple and cost-effective.

The PQZR8-P offers six programmable starting modes to match the precise requirements of different load types: current-limiting start, voltage ramp start, kick start + current-limiting start, kick start + voltage ramp start, current ramp start, and voltage current-limiting double closed-loop start. This versatility allows a single soft starter to efficiently handle diverse motor loads — from high-inertia fans and crushers that benefit from kick start, to pumps and conveyors that require smooth voltage ramp control. The current-limiting multiple is adjustable from 1.5× to 5.0× rated current, and the initial starting voltage is configurable from 30% to 70% of rated voltage.

Precise Soft Stop for Water Hammer Prevention

In addition to soft start, the unit provides CPU-controlled soft stop functionality with an adjustable deceleration time of 2–60 seconds. This is especially critical for water pump applications, where abrupt stopping can cause water hammer — a pressure surge that damages pipes, valves, fittings, and pump seals. By gradually reducing voltage and torque during shutdown, the soft starter allows the pump to decelerate smoothly, eliminating hydraulic shock and significantly extending the lifespan of the entire pumping system. A free-stop mode is also available for loads that do not require controlled deceleration.

Comprehensive 14-Layer Protection System

The industrial soft starter incorporates 14 built-in protection functions to safeguard both the starter and the connected motor: over-temperature protection, starting time-out protection, input and output open-phase protection, three-phase imbalance protection, starting overcurrent protection, running overload protection, undervoltage and overvoltage protection, load short-circuit protection, external instantaneous stop terminal open-loop protection, fault parameter setting protection, auto-restart / incorrect wiring protection, and external control stop terminal wiring protection. This comprehensive protection suite eliminates the need for separate thermal relays and motor protection relays, reducing system cost and complexity.

Intelligent Control & Remote Monitoring

The soft starter supports eight control modes, including operation panel control, external control, COM (RS485) control, and various combinations thereof, providing seamless integration with PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems. Standard RS485 serial communication with Modbus protocol enables remote parameter setting, real-time monitoring of motor current and voltage, and fault diagnosis from a central control room. The dynamic fault memory stores detailed fault history and diagnostic data, facilitating rapid troubleshooting and minimizing downtime. An optional remote panel mounting kit allows the LCD display to be installed on an external cabinet door, with support for side-by-side multiple displays.
